Grants and Contracts
- Anderson, I. E., Department of Commerce/ITA, 07/01/93-12/31/98, "Development of an In-Situ Control System for a High Pressure Gas Atomization Nozzle."
The objective of this program is to develop an active, in-situ control system for the primary operating parameters of a high pressure gas atomization nozzle to provide improved steady-state operation of close-coupled atomization nozzles and enhanced size control in the manufacture of metal powders. (Administered by Institute for Physical Research and Technology/Center for Advanced Technology Development)
- Anderson, I. E., 10/01/96-09/30/99, "Development of Low-Cost Powder Metallurgy Technology for Particle Reinforced Aluminum Composites."
Development of a greatly simplified processing approach for particulate reinforced Al composites is being pursued to enable automotive and other mass production applications for such strong, light-weight, structural materials. Emphasis is placed on both alloy design and process research, especially for generation of Al powders by a gas atomization reaction synthesis process. (Administered by Ames Laboratory)
